Menomena - Wet and Rusting

Menomena - Wet and Rusting

I made you a present, you’ll never expect it
And when you unravel the secret will travel
It's hard to take risks with a pessimist
I hope that this shaking will help us awaken
Separated by skin ‘til we let ourselves in
It's hard to take risks with a pessimist
It's hard to take risks
I hope one will burn me, I know you’ll desert me
(This is the closest I’ve come to touching you the way I want)
The hope can be painful, I’ll try to be faithful
(It’s hard to take risks with a pessimist)

Lyle Lovett - This Old Porch

Lyle Lovett - This Old Porch

This old porch is like a big old red and white hereford bull

Standing under a mesquite tree
Out in agua dulce
And he just keeps on playing hide and seek
With that hot august sun
Just a-sweatin' and a-pantin'
Cause his work is never done

And this old porch is like a steaming, greasy plate of enchiladas
With lots of cheese and onions
And a guacamole salad
And you can get'em down at the lasalle hotel
In old downtown
With iced tea and a waitress
And she will smile every time

And this old porch is the palace walk-in
On the main street of texas
That's never seen the day
Of g and r and xs
With that '62 poster
That's almost faded down
And a screen without a picture
Since giant came to town

And this old porch is like a weathered, gray-haired
Seventy years of texas
Who's doing all he can
Not to give in to the city
And he always takes the rent late
So long as i run his cattle

And he picks me up at dinnertime
And i listen to him rattle

He says the brazos still runs muddy
Just like she's run all along
And there ain't never been no cane to grind
The cotton's all but gone
And you know this brand new chevrolet
Hell it was something back in '60
But now there won't nobody listen to him
'cause they all think he's crazy

And this old porch is just a long time
Of waiting and forgetting
And remembering the coming back
And not crying about the leaving
And remembering the falling down
And the laughter of the curse of luck
From all of those passerby
Who said we'd never get back up

This old porch is just a long time
Of waiting and forgetting
And remembering the coming back
And not crying about the leaving
And remembering the falling down
And the laughter of the curse of luck
From all of those sons-of-bitches
Who said we'd never get back up

Freda Payne - The Easiest Way to Fall

Freda Payne - The Easiest Way to Fall

The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love

We used to drink from the loving cup
Now that cup is shattered and I’ve given up
I see the fragments where love used to stand
I used to gather roses now there’s thorns in my hand

Without your strength I waste away
From hand to hand from man to man
You taught me

The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love

I gave my love my one and only gift
Oh but when you’re love faded my soul began to drift
No longer am I like a tree standing tall
Cuz when you cut me down that day, I lost it all

You were the captain of my ship
Now I’m lost out at sea without you
You taught me

The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love
The easiest way to fall is lean on someone you love

The Lemonheads - The Outdoor Type

The Lemonheads - The Outdoor Type

Always had a roof above me
Always paid the rent
I never, set foot inside a tent
Couldn’t build a fire to save my life
I lied about being, the outdoor type

I’ve never slept out underneath the stars
Closest that I came to that was one time my car,
Broke down for an hour
In the suburbs, at night
I lied about being, the outdoor type

Too scared to let you know
I knew what you were looking for
Lied until I’d fit the bill
God bless the great indoors
I lied about being, the outdoor type
I’ve never owned a sleeping bag, let alone a mountain bike

I can’t go away with you on a rocking climbing weekend
What if something’s on TV and it’s never shown again
Just as well I’m not invited
I’m afraid of heights
I lied about being, the outdoor type

Never learned to swim
Can’t grow a beard or even fight
I lied about being, the outdoor type

Electrelane - Saturday

I've got a photo from a long time ago
Hold it in your pocket. Hold it in your pocket
I've got a ring that my grandmother gave to me
Wear it on your finger. Wear it on your finger
I've got a letter that's full of our secrets
The last one you sent to me. The last one you sent to me, oh
What shall I do with a life turned to memory ?
I tried to forget you. I tried to forget you
Where shall I go when I wake from a dream of you ?
I tried to forget you. I tried to forget you
I still see you. I still see you. I still see you
I turn in my sleep and I see you beside me
It's your imagination. It's your imagination
I go to the places we went to together
Find another countries. Find another countries
I turn in my sleep and I see you beside me
It's your imagination. It's your imagination
I want to go on but it's another day without you
I tried to forget you. I tried to forget you
I still see you. I still see you
I still see you...
